We welcome Lachlan Cook to Room 16 and the Muritai School family.

Thank you for those that have contributed to the charter consultation process so far. You are most welcome to share your thoughts and you can do this by clicking here. For further information you can click on the charter blog to see some current articles on trends in 21st century learning. This can give you some background into learning trends. The Board of Trustees has shared some of the challenges that are facing the school in their community newsletters.

This information gives the board a starting point to setting the school up for the future years.  The classroom teachers who make the biggest difference to your childʼs learning at school tend to be those who actually do challenge and charge the childʼs thirst for inquiry. The programmes on offer today are individualised for the children of the class, rather than the same as next door or across the entire syndicate or school.

Teachers at Muritai know that they have professional licence to be as creative as they can when designing learning programmes. They also know that what is taught must align with the NZ curriculum and the associated Standards. However, this does not prevent them from injecting their own initiative into the teaching delivery. Pivotal to our teachersʼ programme delivery is the need for knowledge of, and alignment to, the learning requirements of children within their own classrooms . The natural follow-on to this is ʻhow can these children learn best through the teaching expertise they have within themselves.ʼ While the NZ curriculum provides direction on the essential learning requirements of our children, it also allows plenty of scope for teachers to be creative in selecting rich concepts, engaging inquisitive minds and promoting learning motivation.

Certainly it is nice to see the school functioning with a balance between the traditional methods of practice makes perfect and the wider curriculum of in-school community activities, problem solving, wearable arts, drama, PE and games. It just all ads to the mix of our school days.

MURITAI SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

Registrations, together with full payment, must be received by Friday 30 September.  We cannot accept children once the programme has commenced as this can compromise staff/student ratios.
