FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tena
koutou Muritai families,
Reporting to Parents
Today
those of you with children in year 1-8 will receive your child/s mid year
written report (not Room 1 our new entrant class). In this you will see the learning that your
child has been involved in so far this year. We revised our reporting
format in 2018 after consulting with parents, students and staff and in the
redesign of our mid year reports we’ve tried to encompass all parties’ wishes
in the revised format. We always welcome feedback on any aspect of our
reporting, please feel free to drop me a line with your thoughts. .
This
New Zealand Curriculum chart demonstrates that the Curriculum levels are across
years and demonstrate a broader expectation of progress. The reports will not
be demonstrating if a learner is ‘Below’ or ‘Above’, however will instead
provide information on your child’s progress towards achievement of the
curriculum level in Reading, Writing and Maths at mid year. It is important to
notice that curriculum levels span over multiple year levels and may take
children more than 2 years to complete. The diagram below shows how curriculum
levels typically relate to years at school. You will note the blurry sides on
each curriculum level, this is to indicate that every child progresses at
different rates. What we are focussing on is progress, which you will
note from our ‘achievements’ and ‘next steps’ focus for our report
comments.
The
Muritai School Mid Year Report is based on individual data and observations
specific to your child. The teachers have used a range of assessment tasks and
observations in order to accurately indicate your child’s achievements, next
steps and progress of curriculum level attainment. Once your child has gained
most of the skills, knowledge and understanding of each stage they will
progress to the next level.
PROGRESSION KEY
|
WHAT THIS MEANS
|
Growing as a learner
within the curriculum
|
Just starting to learn
within their year’s curriculum level
|
Progressing towards the
expected level of the curriculum
|
By the end of the year
your child will likely be achieving within their year’s curriculum level with
the current rates of progress
|
Achieving within the
expected level of the curriculum
|
Your children is
achieving within their year’s curriculum level
|
Exceeds the expected
level of the curriculum
|
Your child has
progressed through and is learning beyond their year’s curriculum level
|
The
major focus for the reports are the personal achievements and next steps for
your child, as well as comments written about them as an individual. Within
the report is information about how your child is achieving mid way through
this year and how they are progressing towards their year’s curriculum level.
We keep a careful eye on all of our learner’s progress and achievement at
Muritai School, and have many approaches to assisting our learners maintain and
grow their achievement each year.
As
always if you would like further information as to your child’s achievement or
learning progress you are welcome to contact their classroom teacher at any time
throughout the year.
If
you have a child in year 0-6, please join us next Thursday afternoon at
our Celebration of Learning (3-6 pm) , where you can come and experience your
child’s classroom and have them talk you through what they have been learning.
(Year 7-8 was late last term).
Thank you to all of our amazing teachers who have worked very hard to write these detailed reports.
Celebrations of Learning Thursday 8th August 3 - 6pm
As
mentioned above, please do come along and hear your children celebrate
and share their learning and achievements from this first half of the
year. Year 0-6 classrooms will be open from 3-6pm for you to visit with
your children.
The classes will be open with multiple visitors at once and will allow our school community to tour their children's classrooms at the same time - this is not a time for individual conferences, however you are welcome to make a time with your child’s teachers at any point in the year to have a chat.
Year
7-8 - Kahū held their celebration of learning late last term to coincide with
their P.P.P. We believe that the reports are comprehensive and clearly outline
your child's next learning steps, however, parents are more than welcome to
make an appointment to discuss any aspect that needs further clarification.
PLease contact your child’s teacher if this is needed.
2020
Do
you have a child to enrol for 2020 that we haven’t been told about? Are you
moving out of our area or is your child finishing at Muritai? Do you know of
anyone moving to Eastbourne?
As we
begin to look forward to 2020’s classroom makeup, the first step is to have an
accurate picture of who will be here at Muritai School. This year we have
had many new unexpected enrolments, and some classes have become larger
than we would prefer them to be. Starting with a clear idea of who will be here
at Muritai in 2020 is vital for us to have in place before we set up the
classes and advertise for any new teaching roles we may have - it all depends
on our numbers.
Please
let us know in the office if you have any updates.

KELLY CLUB
BEFORE SCHOOL CARE is now
available!
We are offering two sessions in
the morning. 7.00am - 8.30am (includes breakfast) or 7.45am - 8.30am. You
don't need to enrol for every day during the week, you might like to enrol for
3 mornings a week.
Each morning has a range of
activities from craft to cooking to building creations, as well as a chance for
the children to come along and enjoy a great start to the day. You can see all
our activities on the weekly planner.
REMINDER:
Booking is super easy for Kelly
Club and everyone can enroll! See below if you have something coming up and
need childcare help.
1. Online at www.kellyclub.co.nz/muritai (you have until midnight the night before to enroll)
2. Drop in and see us for an
enrollment form
3. Email us at muritai@kellyclub.co.nz
You do not have to enroll for a
full week, you can enroll for one before school care morning and two after
school care during the week, once a fortnight, or once a term.
We take casual bookings which
means that if you get stuck with childcare arrangements, we are here to assist
you. If you have something pop up, we can take your child for that afternoon,
please let us know via phone (027 218 4489) or email (muritai@kellyclub.co.nz) as soon as possible so
we can ensure we have enough resources and staff onsite to maintain the safety
and enjoyment of all children on the programme.
Cancelling bookings is also super
easy. If you need to change your booking you are able to do so online up to
midnight the night before the booking. Alternatively, you can contact us via
phone or email before 12 midday on the day of the booking to cancel. Cancelling
bookings within the above time frames is important as it means you will not
invoiced for that session and it also opens up space for another child to
attend After School care.
If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
Grace Gillard
