MADE Awards
We
have once again had great success in getting into the national finals for the
Movie and Digital Excellence Awards! We have 5 finalists across year 5-8
this year which was no easy feat as the closing date was during our ERO visit
last term in week 9 (well done teachers!).
- Reihan
Kusnadi for his documentary on ‘Ramadan’
- Quincy
Buckley for his documentary on ‘How my passions evolved’
- Hunter
and James (The Give Backs) for their photograph titled ‘Nature’s Gift’
- Emily
Ebskamp for her photograph titled ‘Pop’
- Team
L.O.A.F (Lochie, Ollie, Alex and Fraser) for their commercial ‘Library
Odyssey’
A
HUGE congratulations to all entries, and a special ‘well done’ to our national
finalists above! We look forward to finding out the results in November.
Mihi Whakatau
This
morning we held our termly welcoming ceremony - a mihi whakatau which was to
welcome our new students for Term 4. We also welcomed our newest
teachers, Kea Maritz, who joins us in working with our final group of new
entrant learners alongside Jess in Room 1.
Each
term we make improvements to our ceremony welcoming our new students and
teaching staff. We now invite our parents of students to attend the mihi
whakatau alongside their children and have donated some books to the library as
a koha from the families joining our school. We enjoyed hosting the
parents of our new students after the welcome in our staffroom for morning tea.
2020 Classes
Each
year at this time we are underway with the intricate and complicated science of
collating the following year’s classes. This involves advertising for
teaching positions, communication with outside specialist agencies, talking
with current teachers and listening to the voices of all stakeholders -
including parent voice.
Although at Muritai we do not take parent requests for class placements, if you have some information you think we would find useful about your child, you are welcome to provide us with this. In order to ensure the timeframes are met within the process, we ask that any information that you want us to take into account is provided directly to me over this next week - and before 3pm on the 6th of November, as we will then begin putting the classes together. (If you send information after this due date it is impossible to ensure it can be taken into account - as once we begin, it is a little like a spiderweb of childrens names and information that cannot be easily changed.)

After
the 6th November we then set about using information ensuring a balance to each
group of learners with needs and abilities in social and emotional skills,
academic strengths and needs, behavioural needs , etc etc as well as working to
a formula of ensuring all children have a social group and classes are
particular sizes to fit that year’s formula. Once again - please do not
send important information after this date, as we may not be able to meet any
of your recommendations once the classes have been put together.
If
your child will not be with us in 2020, we would appreciate knowing this asap!

can email your thoughts and important information to my address - Principal@Muritai.school.nz
Enjoy
the long weekend all - see you next Tuesday for our annual athletic sports!

FROM THE SCHOOL
UKULELE GROUP
A group of year 5-8 students had a grand time yesterday
at Holy Cross School in Miramar, playing and singing with a group of 120
students from schools in the Wellington region. The Kiwilele festival has been
going for many years in Auckland and today they launched it in Wellington.
Our guys were awesome! They performed ‘Old Town Road’ and got
a mighty response from the crowd.
SUNHATS
As we move into our summer months, we need to be mindful of
the sun and being sun smart. Children must have a wide brimmed hat in
Term 4 and Term 1 next year (no caps in year 0-6 please).

relating to Maths.
NOURISH (HUTT
HAMPER ELVES) - FUNDRAISER
Nourish was
previously called Hutt Hamper Elves and Muritai has supported them in previous
years. They connect with primary schools in the Hutt Valley and Porirua
region in the lead up to Christmas and provide the opportunity for families in
need to receive a large hamper of nourishing food. Each family receives a
hamper filled with pantry staples as well as Christmas treats. This year they have had requests for over 500
hampers and need to fundraise over $75,000.
To this end, our Year 8 Charity Ambassadors have organised a fundraiser
'Bake Sale' for Nourish next Friday1 November. Children can bring
coins to purchase some lovely food for morning tea.
SHAKEOUT NEW ZEALAND
The whole school successfully
took part in 'Shakeout New Zealand' on Thursday October 17th. All
children did an earthquake drill first and then went up McKenzie Road for the
Tsuanami hikoi. Everyone was calm and the process went smoothly.
SCHOLASTIC BOOKS
Issue
seven is now available and orders will be closing on Monday the 4th of
November. Your order can be done either online at this link https://mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz/Parent/Login.aspx or by filling in the paper form in the catalogue and
sending it with the payment back to the school office. Please make payment by
cheque to Scholastic NZ as unfortunately we do not accept cash payments through
the school.
DISCO NEWS
Thank you to all the students
who attended our Disco last term. You were dressed up, ‘glowing’, dancing and
having a great time. The Home & School team raised $1859.94, a FANTASTIC
effort! This year the money will go towards library computer resources to
support our wonderful librarian Sue to manage this great asset.
Home & School would like to
thank the teachers and parent helpers who assisted with the hall set-up,
kitchen and foyer duties on the night.
A special thanks to Sinead from
Tommy’s Real Estate for donating the ice-blocks.
Thank you for supporting Home
& School at Muritai!
