FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tena koutou Muritai families,
Today is the final day of Term 2 - what an exceptional term it has been for us all.
We began the term with us all learning from home during the Level 4 Lockdown, to then shifting to being at school in our small ‘school bubbles’ at Level 3, to having all parents signing in and out at drop offs and not allowed in the classrooms at Level 2, and to now - life settling in to our new normal at Level 1.
It’s almost impossible to believe that this has all occurred over the past 12 weeks, and like us, I imagine your workplace has quite possibly been the strangest it’s ever been too. The 12 week term is the longest one that any of our students have experienced without a break, and is the longest term since the four term model was introduced late last century back in the 90’s (- apart from that unpopular time the term dates shifted for the rugby world cup disruption back in 2011)!
While the students are now certainly tired, they have continued to present as settled, resilient and happy to be back at school. The staff and students as a whole have really done Muritai proud, and we go into the holidays on a high of having achieved the challenge of the strangest teaching and learning experience we could have ever imagined.
Thank you to all of you, our parents and our school community for your kindness, your warm smiles, your morning tea shouts, your tolerance, your thoughtful emails, your resilience & your support over this most unusual time. Let’s hope the COVID-19 updates and news next term can continue to be less frequent.
I wish you all a wonderful break over the next two weeks, and look forward to seeing you all back in Term 3.
Teacher Only Days (repeated from last week)
During the negotiations for teachers and principals collective agreements last year an additional 8 teacher only days were established to be used during the term of the current agreement. In order to meet these requirements in 2020 we will hold two teachers only days - one in Term 3, and one in Term 4. We will attach both of these days to a weekend, so that hopefully the timing allows you a long weekend opportunity. The terms of this agreement have until June 2022 to be completed, and I will update you on the days for 2021 and 2022 towards the end of the year.
Both of the days provide a rare opportunity for our staff to meet together as a group, with a focus on refreshing and refining our local Muritai School Curriculum and staying up to date with current pedagogy.
These two dates will be:
Term 3: Friday 7th August 2020
Term 4: Friday 23rd October 2020 (This is also Labour Weekend with the Monday a public holiday)
We thank you in advance for your support around these days - if you require supervision for your children on these two days, Kelly Club will be running a holiday programme during both teacher only days. More information to come early next term.
Principal Awards
Every two weeks in Assembly there are two awards given to each class - this week I awarded these Muritai super stars their Principal awards.
Please find our wonderful winners below - congratulations to you all!
