A warm welcome to Sovann Stewart and Lea Wester to room 2 this week.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Our last week of term is upon us, and we wish you well for the final week of learning, and for
the holiday break. School breaks up for the next two weeks after Friday, and we begin Term 3
on the 23rd July.
NZEI
Thanks for your support on Friday with our teachers attending NZEI meetings. We kept the
school open so as to cause as little disruption to you as possible. Thank you for your understanding
that Friday’s timetable was an ‘alternative one’ and also for those of you who were able to
make arrangements to pick up your children earlier on Friday so our teachers could attend the
NZEI meeting.
Eureka! Celebration of Learning Evening for Term 2 - Tuesday 3rd July
Please join us to celebrate this terms learning by coming along to our Celebration of Learning
evening on the 3rd July, and visit your child's classes anytime from 3:15 - 6:15pm
Fundraiser - Muritai Sport’s Cafe
WOW - What a brilliant night we
had at last week’s first Muritai Sport’s Cafe. Those parents
and staff that attended gave very positive reviews of a fun and entertaining night out. A HUGE
thank you to our incredible Home and School committee who worked tirelessly to create a
spectacular evening - especially Abby Bonifant and Kaye Sherwin who took the lead in the
Sport’s Cafe organisation.
A special mention to John Morgan, Kendal Morgan-Marshall, Roger Thompson and Greg Halford
who were instrumental in the success of Muritai Sport’s Cafe. We believe that we raised
around $4000 on the night which is incredible! Thanks to all who came along and supported
the fabulous evening.
Staff Arrivals and Departures
We are sad to farewell two of our special teachers who are moving on from Muritai this week.
Jordana Philips and Annette Borgonje are both in their final week with us. Jordana is moving
to Tauranga to be closer to family, whilst we are delighted to announce that Annette has won
a promotion as the Deputy Principal at Bellevue School and begins next term. We will farewell
these teachers this week, and also send them off with a special mention in assembly this
Friday afternoon.
We welcome two teachers joining the Muritai team in Term 3 - Stephanie Lamborn and
Chantel Lyons. Steph will be teaching in Room 8, and Chantel will be working in two
classes, Room 11 and Room 3 as the release teacher for two of our AP’s Jamie and Maureen.
In Term 3 we open another new entrant class. Liz Sullivan will be the teacher of this class,
helped as the release teacher by Marg’s Mills.
Have a wonderful holiday break - we look forward to seeing you all back next term for an
exciting term of learning adventures and fun!

FROM THE SCHOOL
HOT DOG TERMS 3 AND 4
Back by popular demand, your Home and School committee are excited to offer hot dogs
for lunches on Wednesdays in term 3. They are $3 each and come in a white bun with or without
tomato sauce. It’s a win-win - you get out of making sandwiches once a week and the school
benefits as a fundraiser!
All you need to do is send $3 per hotdog in an envelope with your child on Wednesday mornings.
They give the teacher the money and indicate on the classroom order sheet how many hotdogs
they want and whether they want sauce or not. The hot dogs are delivered to their classroom
at the start of the lunch break. If you have any questions email Tots Saunderson on totsandrew@gmail.com.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
In order to be able to offer hot dogs for lunch, we need volunteers to heat and assemble the hot
dogs. This is really easy and you will be given very good clear instructions on what to do. We roster
two people on each week and try to pair up newbies with someone who has done it before so it couldn’t
be easier. You just need to come to the school hall kitchen at 11:30 to have the hot dogs ready by
12:30 and clean/pack up - usually done by 1pm. If you can spare an hour and a half once or twice
in term 3 to support this fundraiser, please email me (Tots): totsandrew@gmail.com and indicate
any dates in term 3 you can’t do (term 3 runs from 23rd July - 28th September). Let me know if
you can do it more than once and/or if you’ve done it in the past so I can pair you with someone new.
Basketball
This term we had 10 teams in the Hutt Valley Basketball league. We have just completed the
finals week with three of the teams winning their grade. A huge thank you to all the coaches
and managers for the time they have given up to make this possible.
We are looking forward to another successful basketball term in Term 3.
Congratulations to all the teams, you have made Muritai School very proud.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
Speak Again Performance Development classes will be running again in term 3 at Muritai School
for years 4 to 8. If your child is interested in enrolling please visit www.speakagain.co.nz to register.
Hei Listen! is one of the collections available on the new online HEIHEI website you may have
seen advertised on TV lately. HEIHEI is a collaboration between NZ On Air and TVNZ and launched
in May this year. It carries a wide range of free mainly local content for primary-aged children on
a safe, non-commercial platform. It has a free downloadable app and can also be accessed on
tablets and pcs.
Hei Listen! is an online collection that’s all about a listening experience for children. We're
encouraging young people to take a break from watching a screen, and instead inviting them to
engage their ears and their imagination. We want them to hear their own voices and have their
worlds reflected and extended.
Our aim is to create a collection within the HEIHEI site that offers a rich mix of audio-based stories,
features, jokes, poems, games, music, interviews, and sound fun. It gives children a voice and
contains creative material by and for children. Our audience age groups are 4-6 years old, and
7-9 years old. We do include work by older children too but our primary target is pre intermediate
school chidlren.
Here's a link to our two pages Hei Listen! Iti and Hei Listen! Nui -
Scroll along the stories and snippets and you'll hear work by Muritai pupils such as Ori, Amandine,
Mia, Charlie, Taylah, Archie, Macy, Eleanor, Sofia, Alex, Devon and Lauren. There'll be plenty more to
come! It's Lauren's voice on the promo too.
Though we're a listening space, we do feature photos and art work by children and there's plenty
on offer from Eastbourne children to enjoy.
I've been extremely lucky to have such a creative, patient and generous group at Muritai School
and would especially like to thank the teachers who've been so helpful. I hope I can keep
visiting and collecting more audio and art work!
