A warm welcome to
Romeo Meyer-Westfield and Frankie Duffy-Searle to Room 4 recently and Torin
O’Neill to Room 8 and Noelle O’Neill to Room 14.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora koutou,
welcome back to school! I hope you had an enjoyable two week term break.
Our students and staff have returned re energised, refreshed and raring
to go!
This week we’ve had a
focus each day on our new Muritai School values - Explore, Connect and
Contribute! We have had learning opportunities and fun every day that
relate to each of the values, including a fun house afternoon yesterday when
our students were able to connect with their housemates from around the school.
Ask your children about the new values, and ask them to explain how they
can demonstrate being an explorer, a connector or how they contribute.
Kereru Team spelt out
the letters and then took a photo of the team spelling them out:
Tui Team were lucky to have Leo (in Room 10’s) ‘Uncle Matt’ use a drone
to take photos of their activity.
The Tui syndicate children had to make letter shapes out of their
bodies. We started with 1 person one letter and moved to 40 people one letter. The children ended by making the E for Explorer,
C for Connector and C for Contributor. We
will be displaying these in the Tui Classrooms.
Shake Out 2018
We had a very
successful ‘Shake Out’ practice this week where we practiced for an earthquake
and then evacuated for a Tsunami drill. We were pleased to meet
some of our Muritai parents and community members up beyond the blue tsunami
lines who were also taking part in the nationwide Shakeout18 drill.
You may like to
practice the Stop Drop and Hold routine at home and then discuss your tsunami
evacuation as a family so you are prepared. Check out the WREMO preparedness guide here:
Mrs Ryan - Retiring
from Muritai - Remember our assembly next week:
Barbara Ryan has been
a teacher at Muritai School for the past 26 years. She will be moving to
Tauranga to retire in the sun in her newly built house! Barbara has been
a wonderful teacher at Muritai School for the past 26 years and will be sorely
missed by us all. We will be having a farewell assembly for Barbara at school
on Friday October 26th which I do hope you will be able to attend.
Building Projects
The old dental clinic
has begun its transformation and the team of builders we have on site are
making short work of the task ahead! You
will have also noticed the main school staffroom quad outside of Rooms 4, 5 and
6 is fenced off for the staffroom extension to begin. Please take
extra care around the construction site entrances.
Teacher only Day - Term 4 2018
In Term 4 we have our final Teacher only day of 2018. This will be
Friday the 23rd November, and school will be closed. Our final
Teacher Only Day this year will be used by teachers for professional
development together as a whole staff, and also a portion of the day as
administration and report writing preparation time for teaching staff.

TOUCH RUGBY
Make sure you have purchased your Muritai School sport uniform by next
week. First touch game is Friday 25th October. All children playing for Muritai
must wear the school t-shirt and the shorts.
SPARE CHILDREN’S PANTS
We still need children’s tracksuit pants or leggings for our sick room.
We seem to have lost a few over the past few months and need to replenish
our stocks for children who need to have a change of clothes. Anything up
to about a year 10 would be much appreciated.
We have plenty of tops!
Abel Tasman fundraising
Our year 8 children are heading off to Abel Tasman at the end of the
year for their final Muritai camp and have been fundraising to help with the
cost. Available in the office are some Reusable Produce Bags - great for
taking to the supermarket and filling with your fresh produce. You will be helping the environment by not
using plastic bags for all your fruit and veges, whilst also helping the year
8’s with their fundraising. They cost $22.50 for a pack of 5.
