FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Tena koutou Muritai families,

We’ve ended Week 3 on such a wonderful note after our brief visit to Alert Level 2 conditions earlier this week. Thank you all for your cooperation, kindness and support with our shift in levels and the requirements to sign in and/or remain outside the school gates.  It’s so heart-warming the way our school community rallies to make each day a success, we are very grateful to have such an incredible parent team behind us every step of the way.

Learning Partnership Meetings

It was great to see such a good turnout of parents at the first of our Learning Partnership Meetings on Wednesday evening - we have another night of these next Wednesday. You can still book a time by going to schoolinterviews.co.nz and using the event code: EMXB4

The home and school partnership and connection that these evenings promote are so integral to our students learning success. Thank you for supporting these with your attendance.

Hats

Please remember to send wide brimmed or bucket hats to school for all children in Year 1-6 (only our Year 7-8 have the option to wear caps as a special privilege) in keeping with our sun-smart policy.  It is certainly pretty warm at school in February so a filled water bottle sent along, will be much appreciated by thirsty learners.  Please also pop some sunscreen on as extra protection.  We do have bottles available in all classrooms for top ups by children during the day.

Kererū School Assembly & Deane’s farewell

Next Friday afternoon the 26th February Kererū will host the first whole school assembly of 2021 which will include Deane McKay’s farewell from Muritai.  This assembly will begin at 1:45pm.

Nathan Wallis - E

I would like to draw your attention to the two evening seminars that may be of interest to you - they are both held by Nathan Wallis the neuroscience educator.  The two parent sessions are on Tuesday 23rd of March - on ‘Understanding your Brain’, and another on Wednesday 24th March on ‘The Teen Brain’. I have heard Nathan speak many times and he is always engaging, informative and plenty of fun. The teaching staff and many of the support staff are attending an educator session after school on Tuesday afternoon.

Please see the attached posters below for more information and to purchase tickets through Eventfinder.

Have a wonderful weekend, all and enjoy this lovely sunshine!

Ngā manaakitanga,

Bec Power, Principal

FROM THE SCHOOL

Dental Clinic
You may have noticed the Dental Clinic van which is sitting outside our school hall at the present time.  The Dental Clinic team is here until 10 March and, in that time, are hoping to see all children in the school.  Children will bring home a notice to show that they have been seen and indicating if there is any work needed to be done on their teeth.  Follow up letters will be sent from the Regional Dental Service directly to you to make appointments if needed.

Guitar Lessons at Muritai School - Do you want to learn to play guitar?
I am now accepting enrolments for Term 1 2021, for pupils in years 3 to 8.

These lessons are taken by Charles Hazlewood on Monday or Friday during school time. The tuition is held in small groups according to ability and age. It is educational, and normally a lot of fun!

The school has guitars to use at lesson time, but you will need a guitar to play at home.

I am a very experienced music teacher currently teaching at several schools in Lower Hutt.  The cost is $12 per 30 minute lesson, multiplied by the number of lessons held during the term. Usually there would be 8 lessons, so the term fees would be $96.

Please call Charles on 04-934-2759 or 029-9392759 or  email at  charleshazlewood1@gmail.com
