FRIDAY 5 JUNE

Kia ora koutou,

Written reports will be going home in week 10. These will give you an update about how the children are going against curriculum expectations six months into the year. These reports will also give you a ‘statement’ about how well your child is tracking towards meeting the national standards for their year level. While we don’t have formal teacher interviews at this time, a reminder that staff are always available to meet with you to provide you with any updates on how your child is progressing at school. Just contact them via email and negotiate a meeting time that best suits both parties.

A date for your diaries is Wednesday 1st July for the Learning Celebrations from 3pm - 6pm. The children will share their portfolio of work for the first five months of the year and support the written report. It is a good record of growth and we allow the children to talk through their progress with their parent as they share what and how they learn at school.

YEAR 7/8 SPEECH FINALS
Our Year 7/8 Speech finals were held today with the winners being:

1st Tom Flynn - World Records
2nd Tessa Treadwell-Burke - How to deliver a speech
3rd Alice MacFarlane - Heroes

The calibre of the speeches this year was outstanding and the judges found it extremely difficult to decide on the winners.  Well done to all our senior students.

SENIOR SCHOOL SPARKS - PERSONAL PASSION PROJECTS
Last week we reported on the Senior School Sparks Programme (Personal Passion Projects or PPPs) and the magnificent projects the students have been engaged in.  Today the classrooms in the senior school were jam packed with visitors checking out all of the amazing work created by our seniors for their personal passion projects.

BOXCARS
Room 8 has been reading books from The Boxcar Children series which they have loved.  The books are about some children whose parents died and were reunited with their grandfather after living in a boxcar in the woods for several months.  Generations of children have enjoyed the adventures of Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden. Gertrude Chandler Warner wrote the first 19 stories, but there are now 130 titles in The Boxcar Children Series.

Room 8 made some boxcars from shoe boxes and decorated them and have been invited to display some of these in the Eastbourne Library, alongside a display of some of the Boxcar children books.  Pop in and see the display in the library over the next few weeks.
