Naumai e te whanau o te kura Muritai
Kia ora koutou

This week we have our school production which involves a slightly different take on our traditional ‘Wearable Arts’ show. Adding Stomp, some Shakespeare, photography and visual art into the show presents a slightly different spin on what is always an amazingly colourful show. We thank you for your support in making sure your child has a costume or the bits and bobs that they need to shine on stage. I am sure you will love the show and I hope parents of junior school children buy tickets to see what’s in store for their children when they are older. These school productions are a lot of effort and we are one of a handful of schools still doing an annual show. But it does bring out the best in our children and our teachers, who have gone well beyond the call of duty to make things happen.  We have struggled across the last 3 weeks with sickness and mid-term holidays really putting a strain on preparations but the show must go on. Opening day is tomorrow!

The Board ran a community evening gathering feedback on developing the school through to 2020. Eleven parents turned up and we were able to hopefully engage with those people about some of our thinking and gather ideas from the floor. I will be running another session on the last day of this term at 9am for any parents would like to come along and make a contribution to this process. So this is Friday 25 September at 9am.

We are so excited for Mrs Ryan and room 1 who won a competition to fly in a 737 tomorrow morning. This is to celebrate the decommissioning of some 737 planes by Air NZ and the class are off on a scenic trip to see the top of the South Island and the bottom of the North Island. What an amazing experience

I was so proud of our Kapa haka roopu who performed last Friday at the Michael Fowler Centre as part of DanceSplash. They were powerful, convincing and strong. Credit to Carol Algar who has nurtured this group this year and enhanced the good work of Raihania Chadwick.

Kula Kids' Yoga for Term 4 - enrolling now!
Ages 5-9 :  Wednesday and Thursday 3-4 pm (school pick up available)
Ages 10-13 :  Thursday 4.15-5.15 pm ( I will consider adding a new class Wednesday 4.15-5.15 if this fills, so contact me with day preferences)

Yoga offers children a form of movement and physicality that can be athletic but non-competitive.  It builds strength, balance and flexibility.  It teaches mindfulness in stillness ( I always include some quiet meditation in class) and even more challenging, mindfulness in action.  The yoga teachings include principles of compassion for self and others, discipline and self-study.  Kula Kids' Yoga classes are playful, imaginative and age-appropriate weaving games, song and story in the practice of the poses.

Congratulations to all the new yogis at Muritai School Year 5/6!  See Kula Kids' Yoga on facebook for details, photos and more!  Contact Jeanne for inquiries and enrollment at kulakidsyoga@yahoo.com
