FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Life Education
We have had the Life Education classroom in our school this week with learners beginning their lessons on making informed choices, respecting others and appreciating their uniqueness.  The children are really enjoying the sessions - and always enjoy meeting Harold the giraffe!
Please ask your child/ren if they've been in for a lesson yet and what  messages Harold had to say!

Here are our delightful Room 1 students enjoying their learning about friendship in the mobile classroom

Swimming Sports
This week has been a treat for me in being able to attend each of the 3 Muritai Swimming Sport days.  Each of the days were outstandingly organised by our staff, run by our teachers, support staff and parent volunteers, and well supported by our parent community.
A common comment I heard while talking to parents at the different sports was how much improvement the children have made over the few weeks of swimming we’ve had.  That is wonderful news, and we agree that they certainly have - swimming is such an important life and survival skill to learn.

Thank you parents for attending each of our events, the students (and we as a staff) love having you all there.

The Year 1-2 Junior swimming sports on Monday enjoyed aquatic challenges and fun at Eastbourne Pool.

The Year 3-4 Middle swimming sports on Tuesday had diving, races a developmental programme (and dabbing!) at Eastbourne Pool.

The Senior Swimming sports was postponed on Wednesday due to weather, however we were able to go ahead on Thursday where students from Years 5-8 challenged themselves and each other in a variety of races, cheered on by many spectators.

Kapakaha
We are looking for some support from our community with Kapahaka.  This may be in or out of school time.  If you or someone you know is skilled and interested in helping us with our Kapahaka group this year please contact our Performing Arts teacher Ruth Hooke at Hooke@Muritai.school.nz

Farewell Jess
Mrs Davidson (Jess) has now finished up at Muritai and has headed off on maternity leave as she’s expecting a precious addition to her family.  We wish Jess all the best, and send our best wishes as Jess and her family are heading to the UK to have baby number 2.  We hope to bring you some cute baby photos in the near future as we look forward to the next addition to our Muritai family.

Facebook - Remember to ‘like’ our Facebook page where we post throughout the week some of our highlights, messages and celebrations from across the school.

Kind regards

FROM THE SCHOOL
MURITAI SCHOOL BOOK FAIR
The Muritai School Library will be holding a Scholastic Book Fair in Week 10 of Term 1, 2017. The school receives 30% of every book sale, making this a good fundraiser. Last year, at the fair we sold over $3200 worth of book stock, giving the school $974 worth of books for our library.
The timing of the Book Fair is set around the parent teacher conferences being held on the Wednesday 5th April 3-6.30pm and Thursday 6th April 3-6.30pm.
We are asking for some help to run the book fair, one hour of time would help immensely.
If you can help could you leave your name with Jo or Carole in  the office.  The dates are:

Monday 3rd  April 3-4pm
Tuesday 4th April 3-4pm
Wednesday 5th April 3-6.30pm
Thursday 6th April 3-6.30pm
YEAR 7 AND 8 ZONE ATHLETICS
We have 20 students compete at the Year 7 and 8 Zone Athletics this week with three of the students placing:

Well done to all our students who attended.

SCHOOL BUS
Classic Coaches bus runs a service to York Bay, Lowry Bay and Pt Howard after school.  Term passes are available at $70.00 each.  “Saves having to look after 10 trip cards.  Driver, Dawn, will look after the passes, therefore your son or daughter will not need to look after any pass”

Payment can be made electronically to Classic Coaches, account number 03 1535-0071811-00.  Enquiries about the bus to Classic Coaches (Richard) on 564 5015.

Classic Coaches is a subsidised school bus service.  It has been noted that some children are using the public bus.  If numbers decline for the subsidised school bus service, the service may be cut so please help keep this service and use Classic Coaches where you can.
